Dear Patients,
In today’s tense security environment, some of you are concerned about the reimbursement of your medical bills by your semi-private or private health insurance. This situation may have led some of you to defer your outpatient or inpatient treatment at local private clinics.
As far as outpatient treatment is concerned, you have nothing to worry about: treatment is based on the LaMal tariff, which is regulated. All Swiss residents are eligible. The amount you have to pay depends on your deductible (which can range from $300 to $2,500, depending on what you have agreed with your insurer). Once your deductible has been exceeded, all outpatient costs are covered by your insurance.
As far as hospital care is concerned, there are two possible scenarios:
- If you have LaMal coverage, you will be treated in a public hospital.
- If you have semi-private or private coverage, you can be treated in private hospitals (private clinics). Depending on your contract, you may have unlimited access to clinics, or only to certain ones (a list is provided by your insurer). We have recently signed an agreement with our insurers, enabling our patients to be reimbursed without having to pay out-of-pocket for their hospitalization. Invoices are then processed directly by the insurers, ensuring that all patients receive seamless treatment.
Whatever your insurance coverage, financial reasons should never take precedence over your health. If this is the case, don’t hesitate to discuss it with your GP. We’ll also be happy to help you find the most appropriate treatment solution for your situation.
